[ BLANK_AUDIO ] Hitting the gym is at the top of most people's to do list. But sticking with an exercise routine isn't as easy as things to do. What most people don't know is that it doesn't have to be hard or time consuming. Today I'm stepping out of the office with Crunch Fitness CEO Jim Roby To discuss fitness tips, gym etiquette and some easy to accomplish workouts. [ MUSIC ] Jim, you've been in the fitness industry for almost 30 years, what inspired your passion for working out? Originally I was a US Marine for eight years so obviously we had to stay in shape and during that time I got into weightlifting. Simultaneously, my identical twin brother who was not a marine, was in a fitness business. So, he would tell me great stories about the health club and how much money he was making and I was in you know, hotspots all across the world. I'm overseas most of the time. So, That really encouraged me to kind of start in the business and and also to stay in shape from your time in the Marines. How did that influence how you work out your your exercise routine, you've got to have a mix of strength and cardio and stamina and so forth and I had the opportunity to To do some special assignments. So, being at kind of the top of your fitness game was very important, so I ran regularly. But I really got into weight lifting too just for kind of more strength and stamina, and to look better in my uniform. How did it influence you as a leader, as an executive in the C- Suite? Yeah, it's a great question. I actually think that I credit most of what I learned I learned in the Marine Corps to kind of how I lead now as a chief executive, that now really around kind of the discipline thought, discipline action, understanding how to lead people from all walks of life. All All ages and so forth different beliefs, how do you get that all coalesce into one mission for a company? [ MUSIC ] We're in a new year and the new decade 2020 I'm sure a lot of people's resolutions are to get more fit, go to the gym more, but they might be having some trouble keeping those resolutions. Is there any piece of advice you can give them for people may be struggling right now. I think the first thing should be that your resolution be to stick to it right? So give yourself short interim goals along the way. Give yourself rewards along the way but really about perseverance because most people fail. We start to see failure in the first 14 days and by day 60 it's out the window and their back to their old habits. What's a little known piece of gym ettique that you wish more people would know about? First and foremost is wipe down the equipment. Right. We have towels in the gym Don't sweat all over a bench and walk away from it, you gotta wipe it down. We rack your weights, if your mom's not here in the gym to pick up after you got to reracked your weight so those are probably the two most important. What's your favorite post workout snack or meal? Yeah my go to is chocolate peanut butter protein shake. It's my always go to because it tastes great, it refuels my body and. Yeah, it's just what I like. [ MUSIC ] All right, Jim. let's get to that workout, are you ready? All right, but before we workout let's Stretch a little bit. Okay. All right, so I like to start with a push up. Okay. So we'll start with 100. Well. Will start with 10. All right, sounds good. Put your hand shoulder width apart. Try to keep your back as flat as possible. You spread your feet a little wider if you can close together up to you. Okay. All right, keep your head level to the ground. And I want you ready. Yep. One, up, down, up [ MUSIC ] So I got you some dumbbells that match your outfit. Yes perfect! So, again, we can do a lot of different things here. Start with the basic bicep curl, we can do 2 hand curl, like this, you do a single curl, okay? Again we can do the lateral raise on the shoulders. Better, okay. Okay, so we can do a couple of those. We can also do a squat if you want so we can just, just basic squat, right? Perfect. So, a weighted squat so we're here. We're gonna go all the way down. [ NOISE ] And then all the way back up. You keep your back straight on this one, right? You keep your back straight, chin up, all right? You do 100 of those. So you got 97 to go. All right, keep going after that. Perfect, yeah. Here we go.
